In a message marking the anniversary of the first session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized the importance of safeguarding national unity and amity among Iranian intellectual and political elites, including members of parliament. He warned that external enemies like the United States and Israel are plotting to sow discord within Iran as a means to compensate for their military defeats against the country.
The Leader extended congratulations on Eid al-Adha and the anniversary of the Majlis’s inauguration to all Iranians and lawmakers, particularly praising Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for his efforts in elevating the nation. Khamenei described the Islamic Consultative Assembly as „the essence of the nation, the manifestation of religious democracy, and the pillar of law and legislation,“ highlighting its crucial role in exercising the will of the people.
He noted that three months have passed since the „third Sacred Defense“ against US-Israeli aggression, during which the Iranian people’s inner character and essence were proven to both friends and foes. The Ayatollah urged parliamentarians to devote their full capacity and maintain coordination with the administration while preserving legislative independence.
He outlined key priorities for parliamentary legislation, including reconstructing the country, resolving economic issues, boosting production and employment, advancing science and industry, elevating culture and ethics, fighting financial corruption, curbing inflation and high prices, and eradicating poverty. He stressed that lawmakers must ensure their work directly addresses the country’s main issues and creates hope for the nation’s future.
Through their positions, legislation, and speeches, they can transform parliament into an institution that drives hope-creation.
