In a recent telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi engaged in discussions with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares regarding regional and international developments as well as bilateral relations. Araqchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to maintaining stability and security within the region through responsible diplomatic efforts.
He highlighted Tehran’s initiatives aimed at ending what it perceives as a war of aggression initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran, referencing the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and other senior military officials during an unprovoked attack on February 28.
Following this incident, Iranian Armed Forces responded with weeks of missile and drone strikes targeting American and Israeli military positions in occupied territories and the Persian Gulf region. Over a period of 40 days, there were 100 waves of counterattacks that inflicted significant damage.
Iran also took steps to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz to vessels belonging to its enemies and their allies, subsequently imposing further restrictions on passage, requiring permission from relevant Iranian authorities. These actions by Iran reflect its determination to protect national interests in light of ongoing tensions with the United States and Israel.
The conversation between Araqchi and Albares underscores the importance of regional cooperation and dialogue in addressing these challenges.
