According to reports by the Kathmandu Post on Sunday, a fire broke out at around 4 am on the second floor of a building located at premises No. B-13, Vivek Vihar Phase I in Kathmandu.
The incident prompted the immediate dispatch of 14 fire engines and police personnel from the Vivek Vihar SHO and ACP to the scene. By 6 am, the fire was brought under control, but not before over 10 people were rescued during search operations that continued throughout the day.
The Kathmandu Police stated that six to seven injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, while two others sustained minor injuries and were transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that nine persons lost their lives in the fire, though the cause remains unknown as of now.
The search and rescue operations are still ongoing. The DCP (Shahdara), Rajendra Prasad Meena, provided further details, confirming the early morning call about the fire and the swift response from both fire tenders and local police.
He also mentioned that it took approximately two hours to control the fire before extensive search operations commenced.
