Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized the need for a step-by-step approach to negotiations with the United States, stating that progress can only be made if both sides demonstrate seriousness. This statement followed the cancellation of talks between the US and Iran in Switzerland due to Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.
Khatibzadeh criticized Israel’s actions, warning of serious consequences, while also expressing Iran’s commitment to peace efforts, including those related to Gaza and Lebanon. The MoU signed by both nations includes ending the war in Lebanon as part of a broader ceasefire agreement.
Khatibzadeh further addressed the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that Iran will continue navigation services with Oman but will introduce new management mechanisms after 60 days without imposing fees. He also highlighted the importance of releasing frozen Iranian funds for any future agreements to be successful.
