Iran’s Economic Coordination Council Reviews Measures Amidst Economic Challenges

Iran’s Economic Coordination Council held a meeting on Sunday, chaired by the president. The session focused on reviewing measures to ensure the supply and distribution of essential goods, assessing projected revenues and expenditures for the Iranian year 1405 budget, and forecasting foreign exchange resources and spending in light of the ongoing US-led war of aggression.

Participants also examined various economic scenarios and discussed strategies to preserve economic stability, safeguard livelihoods, and address different economic conditions. During the meeting, Pezeshkian, a cabinet member, emphasized that supporting household livelihoods is his top strategic priority.

He stated, „People’s livelihoods are a fundamental and non-negotiable principle for me,“ and highlighted the government’s commitment to using all available capacities to strengthen purchasing power and reduce economic pressures on society. The president addressed the session, emphasizing the importance of attracting investment as an avenue for securing resources while also stressing the need for cost management and eliminating unnecessary expenditures.

He further underscored the necessity of managing energy consumption in sectors such as water, electricity, and fuel, advocating for effective conservation programs to directly improve people’s livelihoods. Pezeshkian refuted inaccurate media narratives about rising inflation, attributing economic challenges to factors beyond the government’s control, including the imposed war by the US and Israel, sanctions, and trade pressures.

The president concluded that under these conditions, price developments cannot be solely attributed to administration performance.
