Bahraini Official Criticizes Citizenship Stripping as Violation of Human Rights

Esmaeil Baghaei, a prominent figure in Bahrain, has strongly condemned the decision by the Al Khalifah regime to strip citizenship from dozens of nationals. He argues that this action is a violation of human rights and reflects discriminatory behavior against the nation.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry announced on April 27 that it had revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals and their families for supporting Iran’s retaliatory attacks against US and Israeli military assets during the ongoing war in West Asia. According to the ministry, these individuals also published posts glorifying regional resistance movements online, which they claim undermined national security and public order.

This move comes amid increased repression by the Al Khalifah regime, known for its persecution of Shia Muslims and pro-democracy activists since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran on February 28. Additionally, a Bahraini opposition group reported that Sayyed Mohammed al-Moussawi was tortured to death while in custody, highlighting the regime’s harsh treatment of dissenters.
