The Lithuanian Defence Ministry handed over control of the Baltic Air Policing mission from the French Air Force to the Netherlands Air Force at the Siauliai airbase in Lithuania's fourth largest city on Thursday. Some 120 Dutch air force personnel, including four Fighting Falcon F-16 fighters, will succeed the French air force who patrolled the Baltic airspace with four French Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets for four months. Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania do not possess air patrol capabilities and have been defended by a rotating North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission since they joined NATO in 2004.
